Kaibutsu Oujo vol 11 omake script, ch 60 raw

Haha, only one cultural reference this time, and it's on Wikipedia, no less!

This month's KO chapter...has no action at all, but confirms my hunches on Duken. I wonder if I'll get eternal life if I eat him?

Kaibutsu Oujo ch 60 raw

Vacation is more or less over, and normal schedule will resume on the 4th. However, the latest color pages dump on RSF reminded me that there's a Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt manga that's starting to be serialized monthly in Young Ace. Since I'm already doing the Newtype scans, I should pick this up too. I'll be doing the first chapter when it releases soon and delaying Cyber Blue ch 16 for a day or two.

Furthermore, looking at the chart for Q3 once again, it's a bit crazy to do 4 volumes in about 25 days, so Route 225 will get pushed back to September.

Hoshi no Samidare 64 (will be updated)

...Sorry to troll you all, but I thought you guys would like to know that 64 isn't the last chapter, but 65 will be. Sources are Ritual Scans Forge (I think free.fr is still a banned URL, so don't try posting it on /a/ unless you have a dynamic IP or a proxy you're willing to sacrifice for one day), 2ch and Japanese blogs.

The post will be updated with pages as I translate them, but we'll have to wait for a few days for the raw to come out.

Last Updated (4:54 AM PST on July 30, 2010): Woah, the raw is out, cool. I guess I don't have to worry about that

Pages (31 / 31 done): Live translation thread: http://boards.4chan.org/a/res/38606377

Final version (not the shitty pre-proofread version uploaded to readers):

Oh, and a translator's note: Hoshi no Samidare means "May shower of the stars" or "summer rain of the stars". The title page of this chapter is the title drop of the series. There was no elegant way to state that in the title page, so I left it out.

Also, the color page just says that the final chapter will have 44 pages, some of which are colored. In that case, you may want to keep RSF's color pages thread on constant refresh at the end of next month.

Woah, FTH suddenly ambushes us with 2 consecutive releases! Although I hear we're taking a break next week, but I'd better catch up.

Pokemon Special ch 394, vol 35

Oh finally. And I was beginning to think that I wouldn't finish before the BRS/Haibane Renmei BD/Ga-Rei Zero BD onslaught this week.

The volume release contains so many typo fixes that I might as well call it Pokemon Special 35.22: You Can (Not) Proofread.

Pokemon Special vol 35 (Edit Aug 7, 2010: apparently I can't make sure that my volume releases don't have extra shit in them)

Anyways, like I've said, vol 36 will be out in September, but I'll be sure to do vol 33 first. No wait, let me put that in a different font style.

I will be scanlating Pokemon Special volume 33.

One of my reasons for picking up Pokemon Special in the first place was that I couldn't keep watching entire volumes being skipped by the previous group. It would be silly if I did that myself, so as a...punishment of sorts, I will be doing vol 33.

Update: If you really can't wait for volume 33, you can read the Chinese scans here. I might ask them for the raw to save the hassle of importing, scanning and cleaning, but since I really want to finish Cyber Blue, Route 225 and Sin & Punishment, I'll still be scanlating volume 33 in September.

I HAFF TVELVE SUBS (well, more like 1050 lines): Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva

So three days ago, I woke up to this leaked sub:

Then I realized what an incredible opportunity that was:
  1. A properly encoded video raw of the Professor Layton movie
  2. Not one, but TWO timed, incredibly accurate Chinese ASS subs
  3. Japanese VobSub subs as well
  4. A lot of free time
  5. Only 1050-ish lines, most of which are "Luke!", "Professor!", etc. That's about 3 or 4 standard Kaibutsu Oujo chapter scripts.
This was an opportunity that only happens once every, well, year, now that Team Layton announced that they're going to produce a movie every winter. Nevertheless, this was a fucking awesome chance.

Then I contacted my good friend dudebro. Since he's still all the way at the other side of the Earth, I could translate in the daytime while he proofreads and edits during my sleep. After two days, I'm proud to say that we've completed subbing Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva.

My reaction:

Anyways, I enjoyed this movie very much. If Team Layton and P. A. Works can make a movie like this every year, then I guarantee you that Chinese subbers will keep leaking it one week before the DVD is supposed to release.

Speaking of which, this sub couldn't have be done without Chinese subbing group SNOWRIN. Keep on leaking good raws!

And dudebro was essential to this sub too. I assure you, if he handled the proofreading of this blog, the quality of this post would increase many times over.

Without further ado, Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva:

Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva (muxed mkv torrent)
Note: dudebro accidentally put the Demonoid stub thing in. Please ignore it. The mkv is fine, we just included an extra file.

Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva (ASS subtitle file, compatible with [SNOWRIN][Professor _Layton_and_the_Eternal_Diva][DVDRip][BIG5_GB_JPN][480p][AVC _AACx2][E8D274FF].mkv)

I didn't want to fill the movie with translators' notes, so here are some of the things you may notice:
  1. The translation is somewhat localized, especially in favor of conforming to the games. For example, "English gentleman" is changed to "true gentleman" or just "gentleman".
  2. The names were originally from Wikipedia, but once I realized that the writers of that article were full of shit, I replaced most of the names with the ones on ANN. The names not on ANN aren't important anyways, so if they're wrong, at least I can blame Wikipedia.
Edit 2: Hmm, the actual OST and the record cover in the film say Jenis Quatlane instead of Jenice Caitly, making us even more confused as to which one is right.
  3. The commentary track is removed from the mkv, since it's 137 MB and has no value to the sub watcher. You can get it through the Chinese release listed above and on TT.
  4. The sub uses Legacy Sans Md ITC TT, but it's already embedded into the ASS, so you don't have to install it if you're using the Chinese release and our ASS.
Edit: Oops, I guess we were blind or sleepy or something, because the styling doesn't work for the mkv. I guess attached fonts on the ASS don't work for the mkv. Anyways, if it bothers you, you can install the font to watch it the way we intended it.
Not to start a flame war, but I would recommend importing the UK dub, to be released in September. Like Hellsing, the British accent can't be replaced by any subtitle, no matter how fancy we make it. Well, if you can imagine the British accent, more power to you. Nevertheless it feels pretty strange to watch the movie with Japanese audio. The UK dub actors are really good in the games, so I'm definitely supporting them in September.

Kaibutsu Oujo ch 50 script

This time it's a 3-part snake people arc.

In other news, the PV for Kaibutsu Oujo: Ultimate is out. Great animation quality? Blood everywhere? Kickass music? Count me in:

The only hitch is that the VA cast was completely changed. It seems that KC and Tatsunoko are trying to erase the TV series from our memories, even the good parts.

Future Expectations: Q3 2010

It's nice to take a look at the big picture once in a while. Just what is the future of /a/nonymous scanlations?
  1. Hoshi no Samidare: As you all know (I hope), Hoshi no Samidare is serialized in Young King Ours, which releases every month on the 30th. However, since monthly magazines are 800-page bibles, it takes a day or two to scan, so chapter 64 raws will likely be released on Share around August 1-3. It just so happens that I have an important event in that time range, right after I return from my vacation. Even when taking in consideration time zone differences and early releases, it's very probable that chapter 64 will be delayed.
  2. Pokemon Special: Just when I thought I caught up with the volumes, volume 36 was announced for release on August 29th, 2010. Also, since iNet isn't making any moves, I'll probably import volume 33 too. As tempting as it is to import Chuang Yi's volume 33, differences such as naming and reading direction makes that bad choice.
  3. Kaibutsu Oujo: The margin between the raws and the English translations is now under 10 chapters! The plot starts accelerating, especially on chapter 55-57, so I'm looking forward to those.
  4. Cyber Blue: After much delay, both remaining volumes will be done in August.
  5. Mudazumo: Volume 5 hasn't been announced yet, nor are OVAs 4-6. I haven't had the chance to see if the uploader on PD has started uploaded chapters, though.
  6. Sin & Punishment: The translator never contacted me again, but I feel pretty confident about translating it now. Only the first few pages spam Kanji like nobody's business; the rest of the volume is actually fairly sparse in text.
  7. Upotte!!: I haven't forgot about this series, but since Animexis started releasing again, I'm dropping it.
  8. Route 225: An one-shot by Shimura Takako (Hourou Musuko, Aoi Hana) based on a novel by Fujino Chiya. More info will be given later.
  9. Himizu: Looking very likely, since the chapters are short and translated to Chinese.
The Q3 chart looks like this for regular scanlation:

How to use Share to get raws

This is a bit of an emergency tutorial, since I can't set up Share on my Taiwan connection for some reason.
  1. Go through this tutorial until the step when they setup the clusters. Clusters are basically categories you search for. For raws and tanks, the clusters you want are "コミック" (comic), "雑誌" (magazines), and "漫画" (manga). You can have up to 5 at a time, so you can put other stuff like "アニメ" (anime), "OST", etc.
  2. Go to Settings -> Plugins, click Add, and find "NodeKun.dll". Click Ok
  3. Update: Download and use this NodeKun plugin instead
  4. Go to Tools -> NodeKun, and fill it out like this
They're trackers for connecting to other Share users (actually, they're encrypted IPs)
    http://p2p-db.net/share_ex.txt
    http://share.benri-tool.net/node/nodes.txt
    http://share.mudaijp.com/nodes.txt
  5. Click on the bottom left button
  6. Go to the Nodes tab, click Connect
  7. Search stuff like "惑星のさみだれ", wait for it to show up
    --OR--
Go to the Trigger tab, click Add Trigger, and add the info on the download (you don't have to add all of them, just the hash "98424a2978c58e3023fca0f86d68484260bb1607" is fine)
Experiment around with it, and ask any questions
